Description: A recent study of the YoKid yoga program revealed improvements in students’ mood and physical fitness levels based on participation in a YoKid yoga class. Students who participated in the YoKid program were less angry, more relaxed, more flexible (physically), and showed improved concentration after completing at least 3 weeks of a YoKid class.
The middle and high school YoKid programs incorporate traditional Hatha yoga, based on the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. The series allows the students to independently practice what they have learned in class at home. Partner exercises, deep breathing, relaxation, and stress management techniques are integrated into all classes. Students are given instruction on how to continue their yoga and meditation practice independently. All students who participate in the YoKid Challenge are given a YoKid-Kulae yoga mat. Programs extended beyond the initial six weeks will reinforce skills previously taught as well as introduce intermediate to advanced skills and concepts.
